Terms of use

Version 1.0 · Last updated October 20, 2026

These are the terms for using Helpwell. They are written to be read. If something here is unclear, write to us and we will explain it rather than point at a clause.

1. What Helpwell is — and is not

Helpwell is a self-reflection tool. You record a short daily check-in — energy, sleep and stress on simple scales, plus an optional line of your own — and you can see how that changes over time.

Helpwell is not medical care. It does not diagnose, treat or advise on any health condition, and no part of it is therapy or counselling. The assistant is software; it describes what you have recorded, and it will not tell you what a score means for your health.

Helpwell is not a crisis service. If you are in immediate distress, call or text 9-8-8 (Canada’s Suicide Crisis Helpline, free, 24/7), or call 911. The 9-8-8 link appears on every page for exactly this reason.

2. Your account

You can use Helpwell without an account. An account is what keeps your history together across devices and gives you the assistant.

3. Free and paid plans

PlanPriceWhat it includes
Personal Free, no time limit Unlimited check-ins, the 14-day trend, monthly cards, your notes folder, the 9-8-8 line. No email or account required for anonymous use.
Circle CA $9.00 / month, plus tax where applicable Everything in Personal, plus the assistant, which reads the check-ins and notes you keep and answers questions about your record.

Peer support is not sold. No plan includes a human responder today. When that exists, it will be offered separately and described honestly at that point.

Trials. A new account may start a 14-day Circle trial. No card is taken for the trial, and nothing is charged when it ends. When it ends, your check-ins stay where they are; you simply lose the assistant until you subscribe.

4. Billing and renewal

Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. Some sales are processed with Stripe acting as merchant of record, which means Stripe calculates, collects and remits applicable sales tax and appears on your receipt.

Circle renews automatically every month until you cancel. Each renewal is charged to the payment method you gave, at the price shown at the time you subscribed. Stripe emails a receipt for every charge.

If a renewal fails, we will tell you and try again. Access continues for a short period while that happens, then lapses. Nothing is deleted.

5. Cancelling

You can cancel at any time from your account page, or through the billing portal. Cancelling stops future charges; you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for. We do not make you email us to cancel.

6. Refunds

If you are charged in error, or something is badly broken on our side, write to us within 14 days of the charge and we will refund it. We do not refund partial months after a cancellation, because cancelling already stops the next charge.

7. Your data

What we collect, why, where it is stored, how long we keep it and how to delete it is set out in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

Two points worth repeating here. Your check-ins are filed under a random anonymous code, not your email. And you can delete individual check-ins, or your whole account, from the app or by asking the assistant — without emailing anyone.

8. Acceptable use

Do not use Helpwell to break the law, to harass anyone, to attempt to access another person’s records, or to probe or overload the service. Do not resell access. We may suspend an account that does these things, and we will say why.

9. Changes to the service and the price

The product will change; that is the point of it. We may add, change or remove features. If a change materially reduces what you are paying for, we will tell you before it applies to your next renewal, and you can cancel.

If we change the price of Circle, we will give at least 30 days’ notice by email before it applies to you, and cancelling before then costs nothing.

10. Availability

We aim to keep Helpwell running and your data available, but the service is provided “as is”. We do not promise uninterrupted availability, and we are not responsible for outages outside our control.

11. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, Helpwell is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the service, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Alberta, Canada, and the laws of Canada that apply there. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protections of the law where you live.

13. Contact
